Some Things to Consider Before Hiring a Wedding Photographer

Planning for a wedding photographer should be done quite early, as it can be quite a large task to handle, especially if you’re planning on doing photoshoots or different portrait sessions in advance. But with hundreds of both seasoned and aspiring photographers available, how do you know which one to hire for your special day?

Don’t worry – we got you. Here’s a list of things you need to consider when looking for a wedding photographer for your wedding:

1. Style
Of course, you don’t need a perfect Pinterest-worthy collection before you start looking, but you should have a general idea as to what your photos should look like visually.

For instance, do you want your photographs to be in black and white? Or are you someone who prefers a vibrant explosion of color and natural light in every snapshot? Different wedding photographers have different approaches and methods to their art, and the equipment that they use and carry around would most certainly reflect that.

Research their portfolios beforehand to have an idea as to what style they specialize in. Once you have a selection of photographers you like, it gets easier to choose.

2. Venue
Now that you have your wedding photographer, it’s important that you discuss exactly what kind of pictures you want for your wedding as well as who you want pictures of, and in what order.

But more importantly than that, you have to tell your wedding photographer where your venue for your wedding photoshoot will be. Sure, photographers need to be able to work with any venue, but as mentioned earlier, different wedding photographers have different specialties.

Choosing a wedding photographer that specializes in the kind of location that you will have your shoot will help a lot. When looking up portfolios of wedding photographers, be sure to look at the photos with the kind of lighting that you want for your portrait session.

Ask how he/she would handle that amount of lighting – for instance, some would use external lights while others depend on the camera’s ability to see well in the dark.

3. Budget
Another reason why the photographer is usually planned out early in any wedding is because of the cost.
You shouldn’t be surprised when you find out that wedding photography can get quite expensive, which is how and why photographers stay in the business. You don’t have to know exactly how much you need, but you do need to at least have a rough estimate on what you can allot for the pictures.
